Windsor’s Business Excellence Awards honours wide range of winners 2024
Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce CEO Rakesh Naidu said Wednesday’s 33rd annual Business Excellence Awards were a testament to the growing diversity of local businesses in every sense.
“In the last few years, one of the things we’ve seen is the growing diversity of owners, people from different races and countries,” Naidu said.
“We also have a nice mix of small, medium and larger businesses and types of businesses.
“We had hospitality, retail, health care, manufacturing, technology and education. It allows us to show the diversity of the Windsor-Essex region and shine a light on what we’re doing here.”
About 700 people took in the awards at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts while the show was also broadcast live by Cogeco’s YourTV, which will air repeat broadcasts in the coming weeks.
Naidu said those watching will also have noticed the ability of many local businesses to scale and become global players in their fields.
“A lot of our companies have grown to do business outside the area , expanding to the U.S. and globally,” Naidu said. “They’ve come through some tough times in recent years, developed successful products and great teams through their resilience and perseverance.
“Now, they’ve taken their business up a notch by investing in technology and people. It represents a collection of businesses of impressive quality and how successful they’ve been.” (Read More : 2 latest business news: Guanghu Cui of Oakville, Ont. and AI (Artificial Intelligence) gets more human-like)
This year’s awards also continued the growing trend of women being recognized for their efforts in the local business community. Half of the 12 categories were either won outright by a female-owned business or included a woman as a co-owner.
“That is a great sign to have more women entrepreneurs leading or supporting or in senior management,” Naidu said.
“It’s a sign that the region is progressing and moving forward in many ways. We’re delighted with that.
“It’s clearly a very heart-warming sign.”
Naidu added planning for the 2025 BEAs, which will coincide with the Windsor-Essex chamber’s 150th anniversary, is in the early stages.
Though nothing has been finalized yet, Naidu said, “We’ve had conversations with the 150th committee about ideas for new components.”
